Qualification admission requirements

A National Senior Certificate (Diploma endorsement) with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning. Or A Senior Certificate with at least 50% in the language of teaching and learning in terms of the NSC. Or A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with at least 60% in the language of teaching and learning in terms of the NSC. Or A Higher Certificate. Students who qualify in terms of the statutory requirements but do not meet the additional requirements may consider applying for a lower level qualification for which they meet the statutory and additional requirements.

Your admission to Unisa is dependent on you meeting the specific admission requirements for your chosen qualification.
If you don’t meet these requirements, you may want to consider alternative qualifications or possibly, if you qualify, an extended programme, enabling you to register for limited modules in your first year.
Academic progression
For students who registered for a new qualification prior to 2013
For students who registered for a new qualification in 2013, 2014 and 2015
How long do I have to complete my qualification?
For first-time applicants and all students applying for a new qualification, you have a maximum of

3 years to complete a 120-credit qualification (eg Higher Certificate or Advanced Certificate)
8 years to complete a 360-credit qualification (3-year degree or diploma)
10 years to complete a 480-credit qualification (4-year degree)

Application Fees


Pay the application fee once you receive the reference number: R100,00 for all applications. This fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to study through Unisa or do not qualify for admission to Unisa.

Student Fees


The cost of studying at Unisa depends on the qualification and the number of modules you choose. Although Unisa’s study fees are generally lower than other higher education institutions, student fees are determined in line with funding from the Department of Higher Education and Training.

The average student takes between 4 and 6 modules per year at a cost of between R1 000 and
R2 000 per module. The module costs do not include your prescribed books.
